January Meeting Wrap-up

Thanks to Sebastian, Zach, Darryl, and Frank for making it out to the January meeting.  Sebastian gave us a great overview of the Flash IDE and how to work with Flash from a timeline perspective.  Sebastian showed us a cool example of a simple MP3 player he created, that made it easy to understand the benefits and challenges that Flash developers face.  He also gave us some great examples of issues with fonts that designers had to overcome when working with Flash as well as Adobe Illustrator.   If you weren’t able to make it out check out the Meetings page for the primer and code.

See ya next month.

January Primer: Building a Flash podcast player

At our last meeting, I mentioned that we would be presenting something using Adobe Flash. There were a few different concepts that I thought about demonstrating. Some new ideas and some projects that never came to fruit. After a late night attempt at a new project and lost files from the dead projects, I decided to present a project that I’ve completed and is currently in production.

This application takes an available mp3 file and makes it playable via a Flash SWF. The only required software is the Adobe Flash IDE that can be installed as a 90 day trial.

At this meeting we will discuss the Flash IDE, where Actionscript code is placed in a timeline based envirinment and how your HTML can send variables to the embeded SWF object on a web page.

I apologize for the exremely late primer, and I hope to see you all tonight at Charlie & Jake’s.

NOTE: Code is available here.

FlexCamp coming to Miami

As hinted-at during the Adogo Janaury meeting, FlexCamp-Miami has been announced. The event will be held on March 6th, 2009 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami and is being sponsored by Adobe and Universal Mind. The cost for the event is $31, after fees, and availability is limited. Brian Rinaldi has put together a nice write-up about the event on his blog. Max Porges and I have been invited to speak, so if you have the Friday free, we will be caravaning down for the day and may have a few open seats. If you’d like to attend, you can register on the EventBrite site that has been setup.

It’d be great to see a showing from the Brevard area, so we hope you can make it!
